I remember the exact morning I looked in the mirror and noticed forehead lines that didn't disappear when I lowered my eyebrows!
I was 38, a Registered Nurse, and I’d spent years battling my own skin struggles - from a shattered barrier in my teens to pigmentation after my pregnancies. But seeing those first permanent "expression lines" felt different. It wasn't just about the wrinkle; it was about the fact that my makeup was starting to sit in those creases, making me look more tired than I actually felt.
If you’ve had that same "mirror moment," you’ve probably wondered: Is it too early? Is it too late? Am I "that" person now?
At Through the Looking Glass Clinic, I want to take the anxiety out of those questions. There is no "right" age - there is only the right time for you.
The Truth About "Prevention" vs. "Restoration"
As a nurse, I don’t look at your face as a list of problems to fix. I look at your anatomy and your skin’s structural integrity.
The Early 30s (The "Quiet" Phase): Some women choose to start consultations early to soften the way their muscles move before deep lines ever form. This is a conservative, preventative approach.
The 40s and Beyond (The "Refresh" Phase): This is when many of my clients (including myself!) notice that their skin doesn't "bounce back" like it used to. We focus on restoring what’s been lost and softening those tired expressions.
The "right" time is simply when you feel ready to learn about your options.
What Prompts the First Step?
For most of my clients in Tweed Heads, it’s not about vanity. It’s about:
Noticing that your "resting" face looks a bit tired, or grumpy or sad when you’re actually perfectly happy.
Wanting your outside to match the vibrant energy you feel on the inside.
Investing in yourself after years of prioritising family or career (YESSS!!!)
Simply wanting your makeup to go on smoothly again (I hear you on this one!).
Why the Consultation is a "Safe Space"
I know that booking that first appointment can feel huge. You might be nervous about looking "frozen" or feeling pressured.
Because I am a Nurse and a Midwife, my entire career has been built on empathy and care. My consultations are complimentary because I want you to have all the information without the pressure.
When you step through the looking glass, we:
Talk Heart-to-Heart: What is bothering you? What are your fears?
Assess the Science: I look at your muscle movement and skin health with a clinical eye.
Plan the Journey: We discuss timelines, costs, and—most importantly—realistic outcomes.
The Power of "No"
Sometimes, the most professional thing I can do as a nurse is tell you that a certain treatment isn't right for you yet.
Maybe we need to focus on your skin barrier first with O Cosmedics. Maybe we should look at more targeted skin support with Rejuran or Dermapen Skin Needling. Or maybe you just need to know that what you're seeing is perfectly normal and beautiful.
Your Journey, Your Choice
Whether you are 25 or 75, exploring aesthetic medicine is a personal decision. Starting doesn't mean you have to continue forever, and it certainly doesn't mean you have to change who you are.
If you are curious but uncertain, come and have a chat. Let's look at the science together and find the path that makes you feel the most confident.
