For years, I was the person who did "everything right." I bought the creams, I followed the multi-step trends, using cleanser, toner and moisturiser... But my skin was still dry and red and gaining pigment like nobody's business.
After my teenage years on intense acne treatments, my skin barrier was shattered. I battled redness, dehydration, and by the time I hit my late 30s, I noticed my makeup was "sitting" in fine lines that just wouldn't budge. I was a Registered Nurse (but not a Dermal Therapist)...and without that specific knowledge base and scientific understanding, I just couldn't understand where I was going wrong.
It wasn't until I saw another skin clinic that I was prescribed functional medical-grade skincare that everything changed. Specifically, that was the day I found O Cosmedics. This is what sent me off into the world of Dermal therapy - I wanted to understand what was going on with my skin, and why, and how O Cosmedics fixed it - so I could teach it to other women just like me.
Today, I want to share how to build a routine that actually talks to your cells, rather than just sitting on top of them.
What Actually Makes Skincare "Premium"?
In my clinic, "premium" doesn't mean a fancy glass jar or a high price tag. It means Biomimetic Formulation.
O Cosmedics is the brand I chose for Through the Looking Glass because it is designed to mimic the skin's natural function. It uses high concentrations of active ingredients (like V8 Peptide Complex®) that actually have the "key" to enter your skin cells and tell them to behave younger.
If you are using supermarket or department store brands, you are often just hydrating the dead cells on the surface. We want to reach the living cells underneath.
The Alice Method: Your Structural Skin Routine
A premium routine doesn't have to be 12 steps. It just has to be the right steps.
The Morning: Protect & Feed
Gentle Cleanse: We want to refresh the skin without stripping the barrier I worked so hard to help you repair.
The "Hero" Serum: I look for high-dose Vitamin C and antioxidants. This is your skin’s "shield" against the coastal sun and pollution.
Hydration: A lightweight, functional moisturiser that supports your skin's natural oil-water balance.
SPF (The Non-Negotiable): If you aren't wearing SPF 30+ every single day, the rest of your routine is essentially wasted.
The Evening: Cleanse & Repair
The Double Cleanse: This is critical. The first cleanse removes the day (SPF, makeup, pollutants). The second cleanse actually cleans your skin.
Corrective Care: This is where we use the "heavy hitters" like Retinol (Vitamin A) or specialized Peptides. This is when your skin does its best repair work while you sleep.
Barrier Support: A richer night cream to "seal" everything in and support that structural integrity we are building.
The "4-2-4" Rule: Why Patience is a Clinical Virtue
If you are rushing your routine, you are diluting your results. I teach my clients the 4-2-4 Rule:
4 Minutes: The time you should spend gently massaging your cleansers (especially that second cleanse!).
2 Minutes: Wait at least two minutes after your serum before applying moisturiser. Let those actives actually sink in.
4 Minutes: Wait four minutes after your moisturiser before applying SPF or makeup. This prevents "pilling" and ensures your sun protection stays where it belongs.
Ingredients That Actually Move the Needle
When you look at the back of your bottle, these are the "Sage" ingredients I want you to see:
V8 Peptide Complex®: (Found in O Cosmedics) This is the "secret sauce" for anti-aging and cell communication.
Encapsulated Retinol: For cell turnover without the "peeling" drama.
Niacinamide (Vitamin B3): The ultimate for barrier repair and redness.
Hyaluronic Acid: But only if it’s medical-grade and can actually be absorbed!
Why a Consultation is Your Best Investment
I’ve spent 20 years suffering in my own skin. I know what it’s like to feel frustrated and like you’re "ruining your makeup" with dry patches.
You don't need a shelf full of random products. You need a curated, nurse-led plan that evolves as your skin does. Whether you are 25 or 65, your skin is a living organ, and it deserves a professional assessment.
Ready to find the routine that finally works?
Step through the looking glass and let’s look at your skin together. No pressure, no "sales," just a clinical conversation about how to get your glow back.
